The
Greenhouse Effect
The Greenhouse
Effect is the name given to a suspected rise in temperatures around
the world. This rise would be caused by the increasing amount of
carbon dioxide and other "greenhouse gases"- such as methane
and nitrous oxide- in the atmosphere. These gases come mainly from
some power stations which burn coal or oil, vehicle exhausts and
the burning of large areas of the world's rain forests. The Greenhouse
Effect could lead to a rise in sea levels as polar ice caps melt,
as well as very unpredictable weather.
>> There has been a 25 percent increase in amount of carbon
dioxide in the atmosphere. This may be having a dangerous effect
on the world's weather.
