beautification and widening

Corniche is a French word that means a road which is by an ocean, a sea, a river or a lake. In Alexandria there is a very long Corniche which was built by Khedive Ismaïl (one of Egypt's previous rulers) along the Mediterranean Sea. But unfortunately, after several years the road became crowded by people and vehicles. So the traffic became bad.

So, General Abdel-Salam El Mahgoub the recent governor of Alexandria wanted to make the Corniche once again beautiful as it was before. First he made all the building companies restore all the buildings that are on the Corniche for free and then paint them, which made it look more beautiful.

One of the buildings which was restored

Then, the Arab contractors on of the most famous building companies in Egypt widened the Corniche. The Corniche widening was done in three phases.

The first phase was from Montazah till Sidi-Bishr. The second one was from Sidi-Bishr till Stanley bay. And the third one was from Stanley bay till Shatby.

And now the new Corniche is 44.5 meters wide, divided into four lanes for each way, a separation zone of 2 meters large in the middle of the road, and 2 pavements about 4 meters wide. There are also chairs and tents.

And this development was one of the best developments that Alexandria has ever had since several years, which improved the quality of life in Alexandria.
