Xu Zhimo dared break the rules of the old society to chase real love. This showed how brave and how faithful in love he was. However, he was criticized by a lot of people of his remarriage. He rebated that these people were cowards who did not have the courage to challenge customs. He pointed out that this was a coward's world.

Xu Zhimo never stopped chasing free love but he did not at all agree with free love. He said that free love caused many problems. When a man loved a woman, that woman might not love that man. This would only waste the man's time and money. Even if the woman did agree to marry him, that might be for the sake of his money. When a woman wanted to find a husband, it was very difficult for her to find someone compatible with her. She might be trapped by bastards. In Zhimo's opinion, the best marriage should be that two persons knew each other first and tried to get along with each other. Only when they really loved each other that they married. Zhimo's point of view had some positive effect in his world.
