Zhang Youyi & Xu Zhimo When Zhimo was planning to go to university for further education, his parents helped to decide his marriage. The girl they found for Zhimo was called Zhang Youyi, the sister of Zhang Jia'ao and Zhang Junyou. Zhang Jia'ao was an important person in the financial circles in China at that time while Zhang Junyou was a famous person in politics. Xu Zhimo's father was happy about the marriage because of the benefit that it brought, but Zhimo objected. The two quarreled over this issue for many times. Zhimo knew nothing about Youyi, let alone love. Love was as precious as life for Zhimo that Zhimo could not accept the marriage regardless of what his parents said. Desperately, Zhimo's parents had to ask Zhimo's grandmother to persuade him. Zhimo loved his grandmother very much and did not want to upset her, so he agreed for the marriage at last. Zhimo and Youyi married on October 10th, 1915. After the marriage, the two did not enjoy living together. There was no love or fondness between the two. They were aloof to each other. No sooner than they married, Zhimo left for Tianjing University and later went to British in 1918. In 1921, when Zhimo was falling in love with Lin Huiyin in British, Youyi went there to visit Zhimo. Her coming shocked Zhimo. He was so fond of Huiyin at that time that he requested to divorce with Youyi. Youyi had been sick of this life and she knew that he would never ever love her, so she agreed. The two divorced in March, 1922. After the divorce, Youyi left for Perlin for study. She gave birth to two children. The elder one was called Peter. In 1926, Zhimo met Youyi in Perlin during his visit to Europe. Youyi had become a very modern and mature woman. Zhimo was sad to know that Peter died one week ago because of disease. The two visited the grave of Peter and discovered that the friendship between them had grown after they divorced. After Zhimo died, Youyi raised the younger child. She went back to China and had great achievements in Business.
