Objective:
At
the conclusion of this lesson, students should be able to do the following:
- Understand
the types of propaganda used during World War II.
- Identify
and understand the themes of World War II.
Anticipatory
Set:
Show
video clip or audio image from World War II (2-3 minutes in length any
general footage of Hitler speaking or Goebbels - to set theme for classroom)
Activities:
- The
students in the class watch / listen to the audio / video clip of Nazi
leaders addressing a crowd.
- The
teacher will split the class into two groups (one group will be representing
the Axis and one group will be representing the Allies).
- Students
will perform a debate (informal or formal depending on the class, curriculum
and teacher) using propaganda strategies and content from the web site's
World War II section.
- The
students will try to persuade the audience (teacher and possibly another
class) that their side is better for society - debaters will use propaganda
strategies.
Closure:
Audience
vote on which side was more persuasive.
Evaluation:
Teacher-generated quiz or standard textbook quiz
