Lesson Plan: Introduction

Objective:

At the conclusion of this lesson, students should be able to do the following:

  1. Understand the purposes for using the World Wide Web to learn about propaganda and its usage during the Spanish American War and World War II.
  2. Identify and understand the types of propaganda used by governments during the Spanish American War and World War II.

Anticipatory Set:

Project web site main page onto screen for whole class viewing or allow each student to visit it individually.

Activities:

  1. Form three groups and assign a "K-W-L" to each group- write what students know (K) about propaganda, the Spanish-American War and World War II - write what students want to know (W) and then after exploring the web site, students should write what they have learned (L).
  2. Groups will share their top three items from each list in a discussion.
  3. Students will complete a chart listing types of propaganda used by governments during the Spanish American War and World War II.

Closure:

Teacher-led discussion on types of propaganda and their uses today.
