Classroom - Avalanche - Damages done

As an avalanche falls, the ice mass gathers large volumes of debris. In populated areas, villages can be destroyed with hundreds of people and animals buried alive. Supplies such as power and water are cut off while roads disappear in just a few minutes.

Avalanches take many lives. Half of the buried ones die if not rescued in 30 minutes. Others are suffocated in just a few minutes and some also die from shock or are crushed. Rescueing must be done quickly before it is too late for the victims.
