HOW DO THEY WORK (SOLAR)

The workings of a solar car are far less complicated than an ordinary gasoline powered car; actually they are quite similar to a battery powered RC car. Basically a solar car is composed of an electric motor, batteries, photovoltaic cells and a power controller. The PV cells absorb sunlight and convert it into electricity, which is sent through the batteries and to the controller, which determines how much electricity is sent to the motor, which pushes the car at up to speeds of 120 km/h (75 mph)

Electric motors are nothing new; in fact they have been around for years upon years and their not uncommon either. They would be all around you're house, in your oven, your microwave, your VCR, your computer, your stereo etc….
