How do they work?

An electric car is very similar to a solar car, except they are generally made for commuting rather then racing, so inside they are much more comfortable. They have a battery, a charger to charge the battery, a controller to regulate the power, which is connected to the accelerator pedal and an electric motor. When the driver turns on the power, selects the direction and presses the accelerator pedal, electricity is sent from the battery through the controller and to the electric motor, which then via the drive train, powers the rear or front wheels.
