LQQK45: Can I interview you?
Cybertyger: >---shoot---->
LQQK45: Do you design websites professionally, or for yourself?
Cybertyger: both
Cybertyger: what's the interview for
LQQK45: Okay, what company websites have you designed?
LQQK45: actually, it's for a website
Cybertyger: I'm working on one now for a shrimp hatchery
Cybertyger: in the aquaculture industry
LQQK45: Okay, what got you started designing websites?
Cybertyger: when you say "designed" what exactly do you mean?
LQQK45: helped out with the making of
Cybertyger: avid computer user for many years, followed the tech stocks in the market, net user, then went to tech school for programming after getting BS degree in marine biology in college
LQQK45: interesting, so how long have you been designing websites for?
Cybertyger: 2 years
Cybertyger: that's not be primary job, though
Cybertyger: my
LQQK45: Okay, and do you do it from home?
Cybertyger: at work, and at home
Cybertyger: I'm the IT specialist at work, I do a lot more with computers than just web design.
LQQK45: Great, actually...that's even better.
LQQK45: What do you do as an IT specialist?
Cybertyger: Right now I'm responsible for coordinating the conversion of a primarily paper-based company to a computerized information system-run company.
LQQK45: And what does IT stand for? Is that Internet or Information Technology?
Cybertyger: I'm designing a database, and deciding how to best implement that d/b on a network, how to provide remote access, how to overall improve efficiency of production through the use of a data acquisition, storage and analysis system.
Cybertyger: the latter
Cybertyger: And yes, I'm involved in designing the website as well.
LQQK45: Is the database integrated into the website?
Cybertyger: that's one of the things I'm looking into.
LQQK45: What programs are you using to make the database/website?
Cybertyger: Probably at first it won't be--I'm looking into direct server access, maybe through ISDN, instead of the expenses of web-hosting. Our d/b may be too large to make web hosting practical.
Cybertyger: For the database I used MS Access 2000. Another program I'm co-developing with another company uses Access 2000 as a back-end with Visual Basic as a front-end, connected with ADO.
LQQK45: Access can manage large databases?
Cybertyger: Another part of my job is to locate the best possible existing software products for our manager's needs, and present them with alternatives. Also, I decide what hardware systems to buy--PCs, etc.
Cybertyger: Up to 1GB.
Cybertyger: Oracle can handle 2 GB.
LQQK45: Okay, so what program is used to create the website?
Cybertyger: Mostly I just code HTML, Javascript in Notepad.
Cybertyger: I have FrontPage2000, and Flash5, though.
LQQK45: Any reason why you don't use them?
Cybertyger: And I work with a graphic designer who used Photoshop5.
Cybertyger: I do use them sometimes.
LQQK45: Okay, actually...the website I'm making is being designed with a mixture of Frontpage an Dreamweaver
Cybertyger: Lots of people like Dreamweaver--never used it myself, but I'm sure it's great.
LQQK45: You should try it, Frontpage is definitely a lot easier to use, but Dreamweaver give you a lot more control.
Cybertyger: Notepad offers the ultimate in control!
LQQK45: Yes, but doing it in HTML probably takes forever.                                              Cybertyger: No, I copy and paste existing
LQQK45: Still here?                                  Cybertyger: yes, sorry have Yahoo msg going with developer I'm collaborating with--he's from Ecuador--coming next week to discuss working with us on a software project.
LQQK45: Okay.
code into Notepad and modify that.
LQQK45: That makes sense, i still prefer actually being able to see the outcome of what you add to the site instatly...
LQQK45: Okay, I think that sums it up.
LQQK45: Let me just ask you formally, can I use this conversation for my website.
Cybertyger: Well, I just Refresh the old browser and then I see it.
Cybertyger: Sure.
Cybertyger: what's the website
LQQK45: I'll add a link to a website of yours if you would like...do u have one?
LQQK45: It actually hasn't been put up yet....It'll be up in early September
Cybertyger: email me back and i'll get you the company page--it's ll be up by then
LQQK45: Okay, thanks a lot for your time.
Cybertyger: sure, good luck
