| DHTML,why it's helpful and why it's not.... DHTML (Dynamic Hyper Text Markup Language) is an advanced form of HTML and JavaScript. There are many theories about how it came about, Netscape claims to be the first creator of the language. While Microsoft insists that it was the father of this recycled language. I disagree with both. I think some hackers and webmasters. were having a good time with HTML/JavaScript, and took it to the next level...while leaving different browsers trailing behind. You see, at this point, there are 4 different type of DHTML. NS 4.X DHTML, NS 5.X DHTML, IE 4.X DHTML and IE 5.X DHTML. My best definition for you is simply this: DHTML is the merge of JavaScript and HTML - taking resources from each and applying it to create a new Dynamic feeling in web pages. I love it, it's a great idea, but sadly, all browser technology has not caught up to the new dynamic standard. Yes, JavaScript is probably a better choice for now, but DHTML allows for many new things that JavaScript never supported. That is why I believe DHTML has its place in the Internet world, and is bound to grow, therefore, we should get our feet wet. The main problem with people using DHTML, is that they center their whole page around this unstable new language...not taking into consideration their visitors who might not have the same browser. Which is why, a little bit of DHTML is good, but not too much. We will only provide codes that enhance your web site, not take over it - giving it a koo1 flavor. As the code continues to develop, we will update this section, but for now, code a little bit of DHTML keeping in mind the differences. I suggest adding a lot of JavaScript (which is cross-browser). Have fun with this recycled language. Maybe someday you'll come up with your own version. The differences between DHTML and JavaScript are for
someone else to define :-) The DHTML code is very similar to both JavaScript and
HTML syntax. Please see those courses to learn
about the two seperate coding techniques. How To Insert DHTML into your document...
Cross Browser Cheating Flying Colors Mouse Tail Loading... Internet Explorer 4+ I love this code :-) It animates the title in the top of
your browser window. (Check it out by clicking here) /* if (document.all){ if (document.layers) if (document.all) else if (document.layers) function animateLogo() { if (document.all) else if (document.layers) if (document.all) } /* document.title+="_" } } Place this as a seperate HTML Tag
