Now, most of us have been blessed with good vision, and unless you
belong to some strange religion that involves blinding your self, you want
to keep them that way. Now obviously you're looking at some sort of visual
device right now, so you already have some experience. Since sight is
important, and what your looking at should be clear, you want to decide on
a visual apparatus for your computer that will display accurate and clear
pictures.
There are many types of these devises, from large bulky radiation
spitting monsters to small crisp flat beautiful screens. Unless you've
inherited millions, or are making a load of money, you don't want to over
do it.
The new technology is LCD flat screen monitors, they are great, nice to
look at, crisp, clear, all the nice stuff, unfortunately unless your
sitting on a fair load of money then it's not worth it. A low 15-inch type
would usually run about $600, compared to nice mere 100 or so dollars for
the "normal" monitor. There are not large flat screens because
of price, the behemoths, while weighing very little for a large screen
will make up for their weight by doubling their price, buyer beware.
Now for your "normal" monitor, unless there has been a freak
accident, and you didn't seem to get a monitor with your system, and the
company doesn't want anything to do with this so called shipping
"accident" you might find your self buying a monitor. Flat
screen are for the people that need looks and not functionality for the
cost, the normal somewhat bulky monitors usually fit everyone's budget.
These things range from 15 inches to 21 inches (note: These dimensions may
not be viewing area, but we will cover that later), a 21-inch monitor is
large, you may have a 36-inch TV but this is one monster of a monitor.
Consider what you would be doing that requires 21 inches of monitor.
Consider this and then the weight, can your desk take the weight, will you
have any room left to work with this behemoth on your desk? Probably not,
so a 17-inch monitor is rather desirable, it's not small, but it isn't
huge. Its just right, nice sized for what most people need. A 15 inch
monitor may be to small, maybe not, either way you will have to make that
decision on your own, we are able bodied humans you know.
When installing a monitor, whether it is massive or so small a mouse would
complain, you must make sure it's plugged in correctly. A surge protector
is usually a good thing to have, if will protect against unwanted shorts
and shocks. A surge protector should NOT be confused with a power bar,
make sure it has some protection. Put the monitor connector plug, it would
be in a 14-pin socket and there is only one common type.
This port will either be attached to the motherboard or the graphics card,
more then likely the graphics card. Put it in and there are little screws
on either side of the card, screw them in and then, after making sure the
monitors power cord is plugged in, you are now ready to view your
magnificent, or not so magnificent new screen. Turn the power on and
enjoy!
