Lungs
The lungs are the two organs of respiration located in the chest cavity and responsible for supplying the blood with oxygen.

Artificial lungs are still on the research table. The Artificial Lung Laboratory was created to research and develop next generation artificial lung devices. These devices must support patients with acute lung disease, or bridge patients to lung transplantation. The laboratory is part of the McGowan Center for Artificial Organ Development at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Right now, the MC3 implantable artificial lung has been developed to support the gas exchange requirements of human. MC3 stands for Michigan Critical Care Consultants.
