Experiments

What is it like to become an amputee?
There is no way to duplicate the sense of loss of an amputee over an amputation. However, a non-amputee can understand how an amputee must cope with tasks by restricting his or her own body parts.
Physical Hinderances
Try to function for half an hour while your thumb taped to your hand. If the taped thumb is on the hand preferred by you, manual tasks such as writing and grasping are almost impossible. With this in mind, imagine if a whole limb was missing. Without a prosthetic part as an aid, it is very difficult to carry out the tasks that people do in everyday life.
Mental Hinderances
This experiment is a little more challenging. To carry it out you must wear a jacket. Place your arm inside of a jacket next to your body while leaving the place where the arm should be empty. Tie the end of the sleeve in a knot. Now, leave the area you are in and walk in a public area. At least one person will raise his or her eyes to stare at your missing limb. As an amputee without a prosthetic, this is what you will get when you are around strange people.
In conclusion, you should see that amputees are very brave people who overcome many obstacles to live life fully.
