Introduction
Imagine waking up to a morning knowing that you will never be able to do the things that everyone else takes for granted. Maybe you won't be able to do simple chores for yourself, or maybe you'll never fufill all the dreams that you've wanted so long? Why is this? This is because you have lost crucial limb. You are now an amputee. However, there is hope.
Amputation is a medical procedure that all of us would want to do without, but for some people it's either sacrificing a limb or meeting death. In the United States alone, three million people have had this devastating operation. To compensate for this tremendous loss, the majority of amputees use some type of prosthesis.
Prosthetics can range from limbs to organs and even to everyday eyeglasses. In the past, these devices were just aesthetic replacements for the lost body part, but with the advances of science, scientists are exploring the ability for the brain to control these apparatuses. They are even attempting to grow new tissue and organs! Imagine what the future will bring. But, for now amputees can live a full and productive life with the prosthetic devices already created today.
