Autism is a life-long developmental disability which is marked by a lack of
the concept of social interaction. It is a condition with a wide range of severity
and is hence often referred to as Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Although there is no known cure for this condition, individuals have been known
to make good progress in their social communication and behaviour through behavioural
training and early intervention programmes.

Hi there, my son (soon to be 5 years old on Jan 27, 2002) was diagnosed as having ASD after a year-long trial of testing and therapy. My heart sinks whenever I look at his extremely cute face and innocent features and the thought of this kid having ASD will leave tears welling up in my eyes. I realise I am still in the denial stage and I will have to learn to accept the fact eventually. He is well-built and is very smart when it comes to certain things, but being diagnosed as having ASD, I do not know what the future will hold for him. My only hope is that he and others like him will be understood and accepted, and they themselves understand and accept it themselves and find peace within that. I do not know what I can do for him and his future, but as part of parenting, I have to accept and love him the way he is. Getting info from projects and websites such as this helps me to move closer to closure on the subject of acceptance. I thank you all, who's involved in this, and I salute you all. Eventually, I will find closure, but my heart will always go out to you guys and gals. Thank you and best regards.
