Smoking is bad for a person's health for many reasons. In relation to memory, smoking lowers amount of oxygen to brain. This can interfere with memory functioning.

Studies have shown that individuals who smoke one or more packs of cigarettes a day have more visual and verbal memory problems than do nonsmokers. (Turkington, 1996, as cited in Cardoso, 2000.p.2)
