  • Vivid Senses - Are certain senses more closely related to the storage and retrieval of memories than are others?
  • State-Dependent Memory - Does state of mind make a difference to your ability to remember?
  • Time - Time lapsed and time of day, do either of these make a difference?

Drugs

Besides just altering the state of mind, many drugs have an effect on memory.

  • Alcohol - Can have severe aversive memory effects.
  • Smoking - Can be harmful for memory.
  • Medications - Deliberate medical interventions and side effects can impact memory.
  • Memory Pills - Do they work?
  • Caffeine - Still a drug though commonly used in beverages and some foods.

Health

Any illness can indirectly affect your memory by decreasing your ability to pay attention.

  • Sleep - Sleep can play a critical role in your ability to remember things.
  • Diet - "What you eat" can affect your memory.
  • Stress - Stressing out about an exam will not help you remember the material!
  • Exercise - Provides optimum blood-flow to the brain and nerve development
