Out of Memory grows art. This is why the ancient Greeks designated Mnemosyne , the godess of memory as the mother of the nine Muses. The nine muses were the goddesses of various arts.

One example of art coming out of memory is a piece done by Frenchman Marcel Proust, a nineteenth century writer. In drinking tea and eating a madeleine (a little cake), vivid memories of his childhood sprouted up from the days when his Aunt would serve him the same "treat". He wrote, "The whole of Combray [where he grew up].... sprang into being, town and gardens alike, from my cup of tea." Out of this incident came his multivolume novel, "Remembrance of Things Past." (Yount, 1996, pages 10-11)

Franco Magnani painted scenes of childhood home (in Tuscany) from memory (lives in San Francisco).m (Exploratorium)

Past the age of ninety, American Painter Grandma Moses (Anna Mary Robertson) painted scenes of her childhood that were based on her memories. (Kurland and Lupoff, 1999, p. 92).
