Brain Tumors
Brain tumors are uncontrolled groth of cells in the brain. They can occur in anywhere in the brain, and their location greatly affects the tumor's effects. Most tumors are gliomas, tumors that occur in the glial cells. The glial cells are the cells that support and nourish the neurons. The tumor can cause pressure on surrounding parts of the brain and it may cutt off blood supply. (Kurland and Lupoff, 1999, p. 83)
Treatment
Usually, a tumor will be surgically removed using a scapel. If the tumor is too deep, a hot needle can be used to destroy as much of it as possible. In very extreme cases, carefully aimed X-rays may be used. (Kurland and Lupoff, 1999, p. 83)
