Earliest Memory

I remember waiting in line for the Dumbo ride in Disney World in Florida when I was four years old. Each Dumbo "plane" could only take two people. There were three teenage boys who were arguing about who would have to ride alone. The person in charge had them play "paper, scissors, rock" to determine the unlucky one.

My Memory Strategies

  • Write it down. Taking notes or writing things down definitely helps me process information. I remember better when I take notes, even if I don't ever look back at what I have written.
  • Use mnemonic devices. Mnemonic devices that I use: associations, acronyms, and accrostics.
  • Check yearbooks. These or picture directories are very helpful because I have a a hard time recalling and matching names and faces.

Contribution

"Out of Memory" was born at the crossroads of my interests in neuroscience and computers. I envision a lot of potential for interactivity and classroom use. Memory is a topic that affects all ages and permeates every hour of the day for students, teachers, families, communities, and civilization. I researched and wrote text for the site. As team leader, it has been my job to coordinate and to encourage our team.
