Trigonometric Ratios of Special Angles

The trigonometric ratios of the angles 30°, 45° and 60° are often used in mechanics and other branches of mathematics. So it is useful to have their values in surd form.

45°

A square ABCD, is drawn, with sides of a unit length. AC, a diagonal, is drawn.

60° & 30°

An equilateral triangle, ABC, of sides 2 units in length, is drawn. AD is drawn from A perpendicular to BC.

Example

Without using a calculator, evaluate

a) tan 45° + tan 30° tan 60°
b)

a) 1 + 1/Ö3 x Ö3/1 = 2
    b)
