Properties of Circle

A container is made up of a cylinder with a hemisphere attached as shown. the internal diameter of the hemisphere is 6cm and the height of the cylinder is 44cm.

(a) Calculate the volume of the container, leaving your answers in terms of p.

(b) Cement is poured into the container until it is half full. Find the height of the cement above the lowest point of the container.

(c) Find the surface area of the container in contact with the cement, leaving your answers in terms of p.

A paper weight containing glow-in-the-dark liquid is made up of a cone and a cylinder. The radius of the cone is 3cm and the height of the cone is 4cm. The diameter and height of the cylinder is 20cm and 8cm respectively.

(i) Calculate the total volume of the cone and the cylinder when it is empty, leaving your answers in terms of p.

(ii) If the liquid fills half the cylinder when it is placed on a flat table, find the height of the liquid in the cylinder when the paper weight is turned upside down such that the circular top of the cylinder is still parallel to the table top.
