What is an inequality? Let say there are y students at a funfair: If there are 200 students, we write y=200. This is an equation. It has only one answer, i.e. y has only one value If there are more than 200 students, we write y>200. This is an inequality. It has many answers, i.e. y can have any numerical value ranging from 0 to 199.
