2.2 River Discharge

River Discharge is the volume of water that passes through a particular point of a channel in a given period of time. It is expressed in cubic metres per second(m³/s). River discharge can be measured by multiplying the cross-sectional area (width x depth) of the channel by the river velocity at that particular section.

 

River discharge = Area of a cross-section x Velocity of a river flow
