The Trusteeship Council

Today, this is perhaps the least important of the UN organs. Its role is to look after colonies by making sure that they are treated properly and fairly, and that they gain enough autonomy so that eventually, they may become independent, self-governing nations. However, since nowadays, the great colonial empires of the past no longer exist, and there are no colonies left - at least not in the nineteenth century use of the term - there is not much left for this organ to do. Even though the Trusteeship Council has not been dismissed, it no longer functions. If some day there is something which may be of concern to colonial matters, the Council has reserved the right to meet again.
