The Garden

Back Up Next

That garden at one time used to be a sight to see,
Full of flourishing life and abundant growth.
There at one time used to a bountiful harvest-
of ripe red cherry tomatoes and green bitter melon,
of cute little strawberries and long strands of green beans.

It was at one time kept up very well,
each different vegetable in its own little row,
and planks of wood divided the crops so to not step on the soil.
It was a humbling feeling to go out on a warm sunset,
watering the crops, pulling weeds, keeping it in order.

Life and time though have interfered with such a past time.
Rarely now does one ever step into that garden to keep it up.
It has now become a wild, dense jungle,
no longer in order where the crab grass may freely extend its roots.
Wild rabbits freely enter to nibble in on some bushes,
unknowing that there might be lurking a snake or two,
beneath the disarray of bushes and vines.

That once organized little garden has now been set free,
so to say,
to grow on its own in all and every which way.
