- The transport - Black woman |
The blacks that survived the trip in the slaver had a terrible destiny. Torn by the trip, they were taken to the mills or mining areas, where they were forced to work on the average 15 hours a day under cruel fiscalization of the feitor (foreman, administrator of the manual works of the farms). When the blacks acted in a wrong way, in its owner's point of view, they received cruels punishments, as chicotadas, prison , capital punishment, cod (whip of raw leather) iron in ember, mutilations of ears and nose, castration, amputation of breasts, breaks of hammered teeth it, and sometimes until they could be placed in the see-world (instrument of iron in which you/they tied its hands and feet). In the mines the life conditions were worse than in the sugar cane plantations, because they were pursued, watched, and because of that they lived on the average of two to five years. |
