In the antiquity, the
slaves were war gains, in debt people or that who transgressed
rules of the societies. During the medium age this institution failed, giving place
to the servile relationship of production in Europe. Starting in the XVIth century , in the context of the mercantile exploration of colonies of America, this frightful institution was resurrected. The Portuguese had the infamous glory of creating the modern slavery. In the medium age, they had enslaved the Muslims, later on systematized the black slaves' traffic in the African coast, for the use in domestic works in Portugal. When the caraterísticas of the colonial company came, Portuguese Kingdon didn't have labor to send to the recently busy inhospitable areas. The solution found by portugueses was to increase the traffic, expanding its borders until the interior of Africa, where they associated to the local communities and created a net of supply of this " merchandise ". besides, the merchants saw in the man black, more possibility of accumulating capitals. Africa, at that time, was the more inhabited well-known continent, but this would not be the main factor that would determine the black's choice to occupy slave's position, but the tolerance and the disrespect to the difference. |
