The child slave's life was marked by the work. The children accompanied its mothers that carried them tied in the backs. When the slave's work was to sell goods in the streets, they sometimes took advantage of and they played a little. In the fields, the mothers dug holes in the ground and they placed them there during the day for if they don't hurt.

Starting from the five years of age, the Brazilian child slave carried out functions in the support activities to the rural or urban economy, besides they be used in the services of the residences.

In the fields, the functions that exercised were lighter. They picked and they benefitted the coffee, they seeded cotton, they shelled cassava, they took care of the animals, they manufactured baskets and strings, besides other activities.

Between the girls and the boys there was a difference in relation to the work. The girls were devoted to the seam and they entrusted, and some made incomes with perfection, besides cooking, to wash or to serve of mucama of the sinhás and to take care of smaller children. The boys worked as accompaniements, boys of messages or servants: they will look for the newspaper and the mail, encilhavam the horses, washed the people's of the house feet or same visitors, brush to clean the clothes, greased the shoes, they served the table, they took the mosquitos away and other activities.

At the same time, those children lived moments of violence where were constant victims of wickedness of master and of the own society. A lot of times were attacked in an abusive way, as they were of small value, master used them to discount rage and frustrations.

Nor the half of the blacks born in the farms lived until reaching ten years. Even in the farms, where the slaves' treatment was considered good, the infantile mortality was of 75%.

The white boys most of the time possessed small slaves, of the which abused and a lot of times used as mount in its games. From small, the black suffered with the place that the Brazilian aristocratic society had reserved it in the future.
