Today's Challenges

There are many challenges that need to be faced today in order to offset the disadvantages of electric cars and make them widely used. automobile designers must address a variety of technical problems: they must make the motors, controllers, chargers, and wiring more efficient so less energy is lost through electrical resistance when electricity is converted into motion; they must develop improved regenerative braking to more effectively convert motion back into electricity; and they must develop lighter building materials to offset battery weight. Tires and bearings also must be created that move more easily and efficiently. In addition, automobile designers must find ways to lower the load that accessories such as air conditioning put on the power system of the car and they must make cars more aerodynamically efficient.
