Facts:
Whales swim by pumping their tails vertically and using their flippers to steer. The blowhole is used so it doesn't interrupt there swimming . Blubber is used to insulate and store energy. The largest sound ever recorded from an animal is the blue whale. Some scientist have determined that they may be able to remain in touch for hundreds of miles.
Most blue whales live in the Southern Hemisphere while smaller populations inhabit the North Atlantic and Pacific. They migrate long distances between low latitude, winter mating grounds and high latitude ,summer feeding grounds are seen in parts of California. Blue whales migrate long distances between equatorial wintering grounds and high latitude feeding areas. During the summer they probably won't be found in the Gulf of Alaska, but they'll go to eastern Bering Sea.
Blue Whales eat krill. They eat four to eight tons of krill a day . They also feed on small shrimp crustaceans. Blue whales may not feed on the season their on ,but they'll wait till next season. Krill is a common name for shrimp-like crustaceans that swarm in dense, shoals especially in Antarctica waters they are blue whales favorite foods, but they also like fish.
People hunt blue whales and kill them for their tremendous size. They were over-killed . The number of blue whales in Southern Hemisphere was severely damaged by whaling to less than ten percent of it's original number. An estimated 4,900 to 6,000 blue whales inhabited in the Northern Pacific Ocean prior to whaling. Between 1910 and 1966, approximately 8,200 were killed in the Northern Pacific. Blue whales are mostly hunted for there oil, baleen, meat and other parts of there body.
We can stop killing them. We can do research on what's disturbing their habitat and contribute to a Save the Whales fund. We can also help by adopting a Blue whale . Most sites say that scientist say that we need to stop killing them for their skin and start helping their habit and keep it none polluted.
The blue whale is the largest animal that has ever lived. Their hearts are the size of a Volkswagen beetle. There are eighty species of cetacean whales, dolphins and porpoises .Cetaceans are air breathing ,warm blooded mammals that bear live young and nurse them on milk. Blue Whales can reach over 100 feet in length and weigh as much as thirty-two elephants. Their color matches their name and the water that's two reasons I think they call them that. They weigh up to 146 metric tones (160 tones). In the northern hemisphere, these leviathans reach 75 to 80 feet in length and weigh up to 200,000 pounds. The largest blue whale taken was a female and weighed 110 pounds she lived in the Southern Hemisphere. The blue whales are bluish-gray on their backs and sides. They have tiny plants called diatoms that turn their bellies yellow. This made them be named '' sulphur bottom" whales. Their heads are flat and wide, and their fin is small and may not be able to see only you might get a glimpse of it when they dive.
