Panther

credits: Florida Panther

Hello my

Habitat:

Panthers are mainly found in scarce forests, open woodlands, scrublands, plains, and mountains in parts of Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. The lands that they live on are being taken over by factories, builders, and other facilities.

Food:

Panthers eat antelope, deer, rodents, birds, monkeys, and fish.

Why Are They Endangered?:

The panthers' homes are being destroyed, so they have nowhere to go. Plus, there are only thirty to fifty more "Florida Panthers" left and after they are gone, there won't be anymore of that species.

What Can We Do to Help?:

We can stop cutting down their homes for paper, pencils, and other needs, because the animals need their homes to live in. You can join a race for the rainforest, or a panther fund to stop taking away their homes.

Description:

Panthers weigh from sixty-six pounds to 176 pounds. They can live as long as twenty-three years. They are able to have as many as one to four cubs after a three and a half month gestation. The Panther is a part of the cougar family, which contains twenty different kinds of species. Unlike other species of the cougar family, the Florida Panther was isolated from other populations for more than 100 years. Most male panthers are bigger than female panthers.

Special Info:

The Panthers scientific name is: Animalia-Chordata-Mammalia-Carnivora-Felidae-Panthera-pardus. The proper name for a panther is a Black Leopard, but "panther" is its nick name. Panthers are born with their eyes closed, and after a few days they can see. If there is no meat for the panther to eat they will eat any fruit that is in their territory. The panther is mostly seen in the night time, and rarely in the daytime. All Black Leopards have a condition that is rare for their species, and it is called melanisim, which makes their coat look black.
