On
our site we hope to show people all the over world what life is for
a disabled person in the
new
millenium. Is there any difference from country to country in how
people adapt to living with a disabled person? What is a disabled
person? What does the word "disabled" mean to you? Do you think
it is something that only happens to others and that they are very
different to you? Have you met a disabled person, have you chatted
to them and realised that they are no different to you as you thought they
were? Maybe you still think that disabled people should stay away
from you and that a disabled person will never become a part of your
life. Well think again because our site intends shedding some light
on the disabled.
There are many different types of disabled people in the world, but all disabled people have one thing in common and that is what barriers they have to overcome to live in this world. It our wish and those of many many disabled people that every country will continue to develop in the new millenium and remember in their different projects to make a better place for the disabled. Different countries have different systems in place for the disabled . Some countries are more developed than others. This website is to create an awareness of the feelings of disabled people, giving our Leaders and community some ideas on what a disabled person is all about. To show "normal people", how to cope and deal with a disabled person.
It is also an insight into what goes into helping a disabled person. What a disabled person has to cope with and how to cope with all the equipment that is needed to make life easier.
There are many different ways you can become disabled such as birth complications, accidents and heridetary diseases.
The main reason for a person being disabled is BRAIN DAMAGE.
Cause of brain damage can be many, but the most common is lack of oxygen to the brain. It can take a while to see the symptoms.... normally a child would be slow in progress, lack of movement of the head, talking, walking and generally not progressing well.
The control of your breathing, heart rate, body temperatures, vision, hearing and speach are all functions controlled by nerve cells in a small part of your brain. If you have an injury to any part of the the above areas, you will then have a defect. The part of your brain that is damaged will always cause a defect on the side of your body opposite to the injury . However, the highest level of brain function which is our mental and emotional capabilities that involve almost the whole of the cerebral hemisphere of your brain are often not damaged by the injury associated with "Cerebral Palsy" or "Strokes"
The treatment of a brain damaged person can vary. In most cases people need to have tact, compassion and a good imagination in arranging jobs for the disabled. There are a lot of talented disabled people who will never be able to achieve what they want, because there is a lack of understanding, communication and lack of money to help them go forward. Disabled people need routine. They get very fustrated with too many changes and hate threatening situations.
Our site is very personal in that I, Monique, as the team leader, suffers from CEREBRAL PALSY.
DISABLED PEOPLE ARE NOT
DIFFERENT FROM OTHER PEOPLE.
