Word origami is made from two Japanese words: ori - what means "to fold, to bend" - and gami - what means "paper". Origami is Japanese art of folding a piece of paper.

Since IX century origami is a religious traditon in Japan. Rules of it were handed down by priests from generation to generation. At first people made from paper abstrast and symbolic figures, which were used in religious ceremonies. But from paper were made also toys, flowers, animals, containers for needles or herbs, used in normal life.
Since XX century origami is known in Europe and both Americas. Many people added new figures. Some of them are elaborate. For example American Neal Elias made from paper a moment of corrida. From one piece of paper he folded bull, bullfighter, sheet and sword.

Origami is an art of folding a piece of paper. Scissors and glue shouldn't be used. Sometimes it is necessary to make one or two cuts. Many people, who are interested in origami say, that it is permissible. But other people also interested in it say, that it is disapproved.

Many figures are made from square piece of paper, but sometimes paper should have shape of triangle or rectangle.
It is important to get proper paper. The best is special, Japanese paper for origami, but it might be difficult to get it. You can also use wrapping paper, paper bags. Generally paper for origami should be not too thick, (pliable to fold) easy to fold and it shouldn't have many layers when you fold and unfold it.
Origami model should be made on smooth and hard surface. It must be made very carefully and finely. Every crease should be fold strongly.

How to make a puppy.
You will need two square pieces of paper in the same dimensions and colours.
Head:

Square fold in a half diagonally. Corner at the bottom fold up - it will be the nose. Two corners on sides fold inside - this will be ears. Be careful with angles.

At first ears should be fold, then unfold 2 tomes and lay down by pressing in two points marked on picture.

That should be the effect.

Body:
Square lay like diamond. corners on left and right fold inside but creases can't meet neither in the middle nor ta the top. Corner at the bottom fold under neath so as to hide it.

Top of figore fold to the back. Lower corners should be fold inside.








Now put head on body, draw eyes and nose.
