Mediterranean Scrub

In climates which have cool moist winters and hot dry summers, highly evolved scrub communities have developed. These scrub communities can be found along the coast of California, Chile, the Mediterranean sea, and southern coast of Africa and Australia. The plants of these areas either loose their leaves in the summer or are evergreen trees and shrubs which lie dormant in the summer. Due to the low amount of soft water, slight difference in local precipitation has created many distinct species of plants and animals which are now threatened by human settlement in the Mediterranean scrub, ecosystems.
