Welcome to CGI

Man has always found the heavens to be a mysterious place and ever since Ancient Greece humans have tried to restore order and understand the chaotic and ever changing sky above them. As time has passed, so did the theories and philosophies that tried to explain the universe. These ideas have now led us to the present-day's complex and revolutionizing theories of General Relativity and Quantum Mechanics. Have you ever wondered who, how, or why these theories were developed? Or do you need more in-depth information on our Solar System, Galaxy, Local Group, or even Local Supercluster? Maybe your just curious about rocketry, satellites, future space travel, extraterrestrial life, or stargazing?

Well look no further--you've come to Cosmolo-G Interactive.

Cosmolo-G Interactive is an educational internet resource that promotes student involvement and understanding of the Universe. Cosmology is the study of the whole universe and our site provides relevant topics on several areas of interest.

Giant Disaster
Saturday August 19, 2000 - Jason

Just one week before this entry was due an enormous tragedy happened. As I was busily scouring through all our work that needed to be uploaded, I came across a slight problem that turned for the worst...

I restarted my computer to find that explorer caused an illegal operation and had to be shutdown! So I clicked ‘ok’ and waited for several minutes and never got to the desktop! At this point all hysteria was loose and I tried using ‘scanreg.exe’ to help save the day, but to my dismay it did not work. After one full day of trying to get my computer back working I had to resort to the ‘professionals.’ (Who ended up REFORMATTING my whole hard drive, loosing everything!!!) I finally got my computer back the day before this website was due and spent a good deal of the day ‘reinstalling’ software back onto my computer.

DUE TO THIS FACT MUCH OF THE OTHER SUPPORTED LANGUAGE SECTIONS DID NOT GET COMPLETELY UPLOADED. THE ONLY REGULAR PAGE THAT DIDN’T GET UPLOADED WAS OUR SEARCH PAGE!

However, we did get the French section up and everything, but the ‘index.shtml’ for the Italian section. Once ThinkQuest allows us to update again, after the judging, we will promptly get the other languages and our search ‘engine’ up!

We are extremely sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused...

Sincerely,
The CGI Team

Radio Astronomers Sign on to Square Kilometer Array
Friday August 11, 2000 - Chris

With a few quick signatures, astronomers have pledged to design a globe-spanning array of radio telescopes of unprecedented size and sensitivity. The Square Kilometer Array (SKA) will be an interconnected network of 30 interferometric stations, each combining the output of many individual dishes with an equivalent diameter of roughly 200 meters, to yield a total collecting surface of 1 square kilometer. Such a vast area would be 50 to 100 times greater than current radio facilities like the Very Large Array in New Mexico. As envisioned, the SKA would deliver 0.1-arcsecond resolution over a field 1° wide. The components could also be directed to view up to 100 independent sources simultaneously. High-priority targets will be faint emissions from hydrogen gas in extremely distant primordial galaxies, nearby star-forming nebulas, and radio outbursts from high-energy sources.

Video Games May Lead To Better Health
Friday August 11, 2000 - Jason

For decades doctors have used biofeedback as a way to help control stress and tension. Now NASA technology adds a new twist by combining this mind-over-matter technique with the hand-eye coordination of video games.

According to researchers at NASA's Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA, the results may actually improve and protect a player's mental and physical health.

This unique interactive system, tested at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) in Norfolk, trains people to change their brainwave activity or other physiological functions while playing popular off-the-shelf video games. This is accomplished by making the video game respond to the activity of the player's body and brain.
