awake: alpha wave:you are awake, but body is in relaxed state, the eyes are often closed, and synchronized sleep. Beta waves; you are awake, your mind is thinking and alert, desynchronized sleep.

stage 1: At this stage, your breathing rate slows and your brain waves slow. There are irregular waves at this stage and and there are slow moving eye movements.   It is the transition between asleep and awake, dominated by theta waves.

stage 2: Involves theta activity and maybe a few delta waves or spindle (burst of activity) our body is asleep and decreasing in sensory activity. There is no eye movement.

stage 3: delta waves:The brain emits large waves as it goes into "slow wave sleep."  Muscle activity is medium and there is no eye movement.

r.e.m.: emerging and ascending from D-Sleep with saw tooth type wave. Once this stage is reached, you are hard to be awaken. At this point, genitals usually show signs of arousal. Complete sleep cycle about 90 minutes long. Each cycle will last about 30 minutes of REM ( rapid eye movement )
