Pollutant: Respirable Suspended Particulates

Characteristics:
RSP are the proportion of total suspended particulates of a size smaller than 10 micrometres and they have the ability to penetrate deeply into the lungs.

Source:
It is produced by refuse incineration, factories, diesel vehicles, construction sites, and coal burners.

Effect:
RSP may cause chronic and acute effects on human health, particularly the pulmonary function, when exposed at high level as they can penetrate deep into the lungs and cause respiratory problems like excessive mucus secretion and coughing.
