Acid Rain

How is Acid Rain made?

When power stations, factories, houses and cars emit pollutants into the atmosphere, it contains chemicals known as sulphur dioxides and nitrogen oxides. These chemicals may mix with atmospheric moisture and form sulphuric and nitric acids. The resulting acidic water droplets can be carried long distances by prevailing winds and return to Earth as acid rain, snow or fog.
