MS & the FTC

In 1990, the FTC began an investigation into the possibility that Microsoft and IBM were conspiring together to monopolize the operating systems market. In an interview with Fortune magazine, Gates claimed that in actuality, Microsoft and IBM were in stiff competition with one another at the time.

Therefore, the testimony of Microsoft's direct competition was the only one the FTC heard, so the government began forming a one sided opinion of the issues from the beginning.
