This magnificent bird was found shot in south-central New Mexico and taken to a private residence where it remained for over a month in a cramped cage without any medical care for its broken wing. When it was finally turned over to a rehabilitator it was too late to salvage its ability to fly. Despite the best of veterinary care the wing could not be repaired. The bird has remained in captivity as an educational animal since January of 1986.
