In
the 1960s male fashion was given an injection of vitality when in London, in
particular, new ranges of inexpensive and vibrant clothes were produced for
young men and sold in the new boutiques. Much of the impetus and
inspirations for these styles came from the pop groups, led by the Beatles and
the Rolling Stones. At the couture level the French designer, Pierre Cardin,
made an important contribution to the production of youthful and stylish clothes
for men.
