Right after the war, society sought to change the once rigid
system. A storm of change swept the country. Following this wave, fashion
reflected the people's desire for positive change. The invasion of Jazz
and advancement in mass media were the hallmarks of the 1920s. This caused
a cult of the teenager freedom. With shorter skirts, shoes had greater
fashion importance.

The bar shoe with pointed toe and high Louis- hell was
considered a classic shoe of the 1920s. Materials were more luxurious.
Satin and velvet decorated with beads, metallic overstitching and
embroidery. Along with this came an explosion of colour. Red, white and
blue leather with gold trimmings and embossed leather were common.

Mass production and the development of affordable synthetic fabrics granted
everyone access to beautiful clothing and shoes. The foot became a focal point
of fashion.

Shoes were made lighter and more sturdy for dancing. Bold,
brassy, rhinestone and pearls were used on the buckles.

Exotic designs sprung up after the discovery of King
Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922. Golden shoes with Egyptian motifs were
incorporated in shoe designs.

Men's brogues had fringed and gimped tongues that covered the laces was
added. They have distinct toecap and quarters in dark colours while the upper
had lighter colours.

Men's shoes were made of suede, influenced by the Prince
of Wales. By 1925, boots with gray legs were seen and fashionable men wore
only blue suede shoes.
