The monument is located on the greenbelt along the Motoyasu River. Concerned memders of the bereaved families of the studens, who came from twenty-one middle and girl's schools in Hiroshima, took the initiative in building this monument. It was erected on July 31, 1966. About 4,000 names of the dead are engraved on the copper name3plate which is 30 centimeters long and 50 centimeters wide. The nameplate is stored in the monument. A 2-meters-high bronze statue of Kannon is erected on the base. Hoko Sunahara built the monument.
There are two poems engraved in marble on the base.
" In revernce for the spirits of there students Who have become Kannon preserving peace."
" We find peace in thinking of you Sleeping in the arms of the merciful Kannon."

The number of students killed by the A-bomb was presumed to be about 6,000. As soon as names of others become known they will be added to the nameplate.
