Monument for the A-bomb Victims from the Hiroshima Agricultural Association

The Monument for the A-bomb Victims from the Hiroshima Agricultural Association is placed on the greenbelt along the Motoyasu River where the Agricultural Association had a branch office at the time of the bombing. Some 40 workers from this branch, which was located near the hypocenter, and 14 from the main office in Kokutaiji-machi were killed by the A-bomb. Many others died later. To pray for the repose of the souls of the victims, the Hiroshima Central Agricultural Cooperative Association and its related four federations erected a monument with the names of 83 victims carved on it.
The monument made of black granite is 2 meters high and 4 meters wide. Its epigraph was written by Hisato Oku, the president of the Agricultural Association at that time. The inscription was selected by Mr.Mamoru Yukihiro, chairman of the Hiroshima Doeisha Cooperative Agricultural Federation. The inscription and the names of the 83 victims were handwritted by Mr. Jitsuo Ito, chairman of the Hiroshima Central Agricultural Cooperative Association. The monument was unveiled on July 31, 1971.
