@This monument stands in the corner of the children's park along the Motoyasu River where the old compamy building stood at the time of the bombing. It is popularly called the A-bomb Jizo(guardian deity of children). Of the 77 employees of the company, only one woman survived. The surviving em-ployee praying for the repose of the souls of her colleagues, appealed to peo-ple in coal-related businesses from Hokkaido to northern Kyushu, and took Jizo made by Konan Hanami stands on a lotus- shaped base which is place upon a 1.2-meter-high pedestal. This stone is a "Hon-Ko-matsu stone" quarried from Mt. Ashigara in Soshu (present-day Kanagawa Prefecture). Inside the monument there is a copper plate on which the names of the victims are inscibed. |
