This monument is located near the site of
the old post office on the eastern end of
the Motoyasu Bridge. The monument was rercted
on March 26, 1976, to preserve forever the
site of the Hiroshima Post Office which was
destroyed by the A-bomb. On the foront of
the monument, which is made of bluestone
from Shikoku, is inscribed "Monument
built for those who died on duty. 288 officers
of the Hiroshima Post Office killed in the
atomic bomb ing." Another monument to the employees of the Hiroshima Post Office was erected in the orecincts of the Tamonin, located in Hijiyama Oark, on August 6, 1953. |
