Statue of Mother ands Child in the Storm

The Statue of Mother and Child in the Storm is located on the greenbelt in front of the West Building of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. The bronze stat- ue represents a mother holding an infant tightly in her right arm and protecting an-other child with her left arm, leaning for- ward, determined to survive whatever suffering may confront her. The Japan Council Against A-and H-bombs presented the City of Hiroshima with an original work by Shin Hongo, member of the Aritists Association of Shinseisaku at the time of the fifth World Conference Against A-and H-bombs.
The Hiroshima Municipal Federation of Womam's Associations decided to make a bronze replica of his work and raised funds to erect it on August 5, 1960.
