The Monument to the Former South Tenjin-machi
Area stands on the greenbelt west of the
Peace Bridge. This community was completely
destroyed by the A-bomb. The disaster was
utterly beyond description. Those who were
at home and those outside engaged in demolition
of buildings were all killed instantly. Some
friends who had ties to the community decided
to have a memorial built. It was erected
on October 15, 1973.
The monument is made of granite with a copper
plaque of three dancing heavenly maidens.
It was disigned by Masanami Yoshida of the
Hijiyama Woman's Junior College Art Department,
and made by Ito-Kyuhodo. The Tenmangu(shurine),
popular with the townspeople, was located
in this community. Not scheduled to be demolished
for a firebreak, it was destroyed by the
A-bomb explosion. |
